Russia does not need to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine, Russian Minister of Defence, Sergei Shoigu, said on Tuesday.

“The media is speculating about the possible use of Russian tactical nuclear weapons during a special military operation in Ukraine or about the readiness to use chemical weapons. All this information is an absolute lie,” he noted.

He claimed that “there is no need to inflict such a blow on Ukraine from a military point of view”.

The Defence Minister suggested that Russia was fighting with the “united forces of the West [in Ukraine] which control the leadership of Ukraine.”

Russia invaded Ukraine in February of this year.
