Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will attend the funeral of His Holiness, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia, the Georgian Orthodox Church has confirmed.

The Ecumenical Patriarch also held a memorial service for Ilia II at the Patriarchal Church of St George, honouring the late Georgian spiritual leader.

Patriarch Ilia II, who led the Georgian Orthodox Church for decades, died on 17 March at the age of 93. He will be laid to rest at Sioni Cathedral in Tbilisi on 22 March.
