A protest rally is taking place in front of the Georgian Government Administration, coinciding with a government session. Media representatives have gathered under the slogan, “Freedom to the founder of Netgazeti and Batumelebi, Mzia Amaglobeli,” demanding the release of the detained journalist.

Amaglobeli was detained earlier this month for insulting a police officer during rallies against the Government’s decision last year to halt EU accession process until 2028. The defence claims a senior law enforcement had insulted the media founder following her detention.

Participants from various media outlets have joined the rally, expressing their solidarity with Amaglobeli. They are calling on the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia to file a motion to replace Amaglobeli’s current preventive measure of imprisonment with a lighter alternative.
Protesters chanted slogans such as “Freedom to Mzia” and displayed banners bearing messages of support, including “Freedom to the founder of Netgazeti and Batumelebi Mzia Amaglobeli”.

The rally participants have also appealed to the Special Investigation Service to investigate alleged mistreatment of the journalist while in detention.
