Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder of Batumelebi and Netgazeti media outlets, on Tuesday ended her hunger strike after 38 days. The announcement was made by the Batumelebi editor, Eter Turadze, during a briefing at the Vivamedi Tbilisi clinic.

In a letter, Amaglobeli expressed gratitude for the support received and called on other prisoners of conscience to also end their hunger strikes. “With the help of doctors, I will try to somehow restore my nutrition in the coming days. I thank the prisoners of conscience for their solidarity. I ask them to end their hunger strike as well,” Amaglobeli wrote.

Amaglobeli was arrested on charges of assaulting a police officer after slapping Batumi Police Chief Irakli Dgebuadze in January during protests against halted EU integration. Since her arrest, she had been on a hunger strike in protest. The prolonged strike had raised concerns about her health, prompting calls for intervention from human rights groups and supporters.
