US citizen arrested in Georgian capital on drug trafficking charges

Georgia’s Interior Ministry on Sunday announced a joint operation conducted by the Central Criminal Police Department and the Revenue Service’s Customs Department led to the arrest of a US citizen in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi on drug-related charges.
The detainee, identified as M.O., born in 1964, is accused of the illegal purchase and possession of narcotics in especially large quantities, as well as their unlawful import into Georgia. The charges carry a sentence of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
According to authorities, during a search of the suspect’s luggage at Tbilisi International Airport, law enforcement officers seized a significant amount of narcotics as evidence. This included 67 grams of marijuana cartridges designed for electronic cigarettes and several dozen cannabis seeds.
