Cuban citizen arrested in Georgia on drug trafficking charges

The suspect was detained at the scene and charged with illegal possession of drugs in particularly large quantities and facilitating their distribution

Police in Tbilisi have arrested a Cuban citizen on suspicion of possessing and facilitating the distribution of a large quantity of illegal drugs.
The Interior Ministry said on Tuesday the 32-year-old man, identified only as R.P., was stopped by patrol inspectors while walking in the capital. During a search, officers allegedly discovered 17 packages of methadone prepared for sale.
The suspect was detained at the scene and charged with illegal possession of drugs in particularly large quantities and facilitating their distribution.
Under Georgian law, the offences carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison or a life sentence. The investigation is ongoing.
