Russian citizen detained in Tbilisi on drug possession charges

The crime carries a penalty of up to six years in prison

Georgia’s Interior Ministry on Tuesday said police in Tbilisi had detained a Russian national on suspicion of illegally purchasing and possessing narcotic substances.
According to the ministry, officers from the Tbilisi Police Department arrested the 30-year-old man, identified only by the initials O.K., after discovering a packaged quantity of the synthetic drug clephedrone during a personal search. The substance was seized as evidence.
An investigation has been launched under Article 260 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which carries a penalty of up to six years in prison for illegal possession of narcotics.
