Georgian police on Monday said they had arrested a Turkish national in Tbilisi on suspicion of illegal possession and attempted distribution of narcotics.
The Interior Ministry reported that the 44-year-old man, identified only as A.S., was detained following a joint operational and investigative effort by the Patrol Police Department’s Tbilisi division.
During a search, officers seized 20 packages of drugs prepared for sale. Additional quantities of powdered and crystalline substances, believed to be narcotics, as well as an electronic scale, were recovered from the suspect’s residence, the ministry said.
A.S. has been formally charged and remains in custody. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison under Article 260 of Georgia’s Criminal Code.
