The NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, Javier Colomina,  has congratulated Georgia on receiving the European perspective by the European Council decision on June 23.

“Congratulations to all my Georgian friends,” Colomina tweeted on Friday.

Ukraine and Moldova received both European perspective and candidate status per the EU Council decision.

If Georgia addresses priorities set by the European Commission in a six month term, the Commission may grant Georgia candidate status.

The issue Georgia need to address include easing polarization, strengthening of independence of state institutions, judiciary reform, strengthening of anti-corruption agency, implementing the commitment to “de-oligarchisation” by eliminating the excessive influence of vested interests in economic, political, and public life, strengthening the fight against organised crime, undertaking stronger efforts to guarantee a free, professional, pluralistic and independent media environment, strengthening the protection of human rights of vulnerable groups and others.
