Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary-General of NATO, said earlier today that Russia ‘repeatedly lied’ about its intentions, including in statements that the country would scale down the military operations around Kyiv and northern Ukraine.

Stoltenberg noted that NATO intelligence found that the Russian troops were not ‘withdrawing, but repositioning,’ adding the Alliance could only judge the official Moscow by its actions, rather than words.

“Russia is trying to regroup, resupply and reinforce its offensive in the Donbas region. At the same time, Russia maintains pressure on Kyiv and other cities. So we can expect additional offensive actions, bringing even more suffering,” he explained.

The Secretary-General once again urged Russia to engage in peace talks, withdraw troops from Ukraine and end the ‘senseless’ war.
