Russia does not pose a threat to the world order, unlike NATO, which planned and carried out the 2014 government change in Ukraine and provoked Moscow by bringing its borders closer to Russia’s, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said Thursday, responding to the recent comments of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg that Russia’s actions jeopardized the international order.

Peskov claimed that the current situation in Europe “to a large extent” was caused by “NATO’s aggressive attack” and “the alliance’s approach to Russia’s borders”.

“The real threat to the world order on our continent, in Europe, is probably the coup that took place in Ukraine in 2014 and was orchestrated by NATO member states”, Peskov suggested.

Stoltenberg has stated that  the war in Ukraine was “the most dangerous moment” for Europe after the Second World War, and Russia should not be allowed to win.

He said that if the Russian president did the same to NATO as he did to Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, then NATO would  be fully involved in these processes.
