Antibodies extracted from the blood of people who have received the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine have shown that this vaccine is 10 times less effective against the virus with the E484K mutation. Meanwhile, 10 million people have already received the first dose of the vaccine in Britain.

Reported by CNN.

Scientists from the University of Cambridge have discovered 11 cases of a mutation in the British strain B.1.1.7, called E484K, which contributes to the rapid spread of coronavirus in South Africa and Brazil.

"This is probably bad news_copy for the effectiveness of vaccines," – said Joseph Fover, assistant professor of epidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health.

Scientists are confident that the vaccination program will help reduce morbidity and mortality even if the vaccine is not as effective against the new mutation.
