Part of Georgian NGOs has urged the Georgian Dream government to create a special agency which will work for the country’s EU membership procedures, while President Salome Zurabishvili will represent the country in the process.

Open Society Georgia welcomed the Georgian Dream ruling party’s decision to apply for EU membership today on behalf of the NGOs and stated that ‘it will not be an easy way to walk.’

The NGOs say that the successful completion of the process requires the joint efforts of the public, the authorities and the opposition.

Georgia’s move to apply for EU membership and request the candidate country status in an accelerated manner comes after the same decision of Ukraine which is currently at war with Russia.
