Georgian parliamentary delegation discusses security and EU ties during Italy visit

A Georgian parliamentary delegation led by Nikoloz Samkharadze has held talks in Rome with Italian lawmakers on bilateral relations, regional security and Georgia’s European integration agenda.
According to the Georgian parliament’s press service, the delegation met Maurizio Gasparri during an official visit to Italy.
The sides discussed political and parliamentary cooperation between Georgia and Italy, with particular attention given to strengthening ties at the legislative level.
Talks also focused on regional security challenges and ongoing conflicts, including Russia’s war in Ukraine and developments surrounding Iran.
Samkharadze briefed the Italian side on the situation in Georgia’s Russian-occupied territories and what he described as threats stemming from Russia.
The meeting additionally addressed Georgia’s role in supporting the European Union’s energy security and the strategic importance of the Middle Corridor trade route linking Europe and Asia.
According to the Georgian side, discussions also covered Georgia’s EU accession agenda and existing difficulties in relations between Tbilisi and Brussels.
The Georgian parliament said Italy’s role in helping restore open dialogue between Georgia and the EU was emphasised during the talks.
