Nino Lomjaria, founder of the public platform Georgian European Orbit and former public defender has spoken out against alleged degrading treatment of detained activists amid protests against halted EU integration, claiming they were stripped naked and forced to perform specific actions during their arrest.

In her comments on Monday, Lomjaria emphasized that such practices violate United Nations and Council of Europe standards, which prohibit full-body strip searches and coercive actions unless there is reasonable suspicion of prohibited substances being concealed.

“Say no to such practices because you have the right to disobey this request, and they do not have the right to strip you naked and make you perform various tasks,” she said.

Lomjaria further highlighted that such treatment is particularly concerning when directed toward women, stressing that it constitutes degrading and inhumane treatment.
