North Korea and Russia have agreed on strategic cooperation, committing to mutual assistance in case of aggression. The agreement was signed in Pyongyang following talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The document outlines mutual assistance and potential military cooperation if either country faces aggression. During the meeting, Kim Jong-un expressed full support for Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine, emphasising its role in protecting sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security.

Kim praised Russia’s efforts in maintaining global strategic balance. President Putin, on a state visit to North Korea, acknowledged the support from Kim and North Korea regarding Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

Russia refers to its large-scale war against Ukraine, ongoing for two years, as a “special military operation.” This conflict has resulted in extensive destruction and significant loss of life in Ukraine. North Korea remains one of the few countries to openly support Russia’s actions.

This marks Putin’s second visit to North Korea; his first was in 2000.
