Representatives of Russian occupation forces illegally detained two Georgian citizens near the village of Mejvriskhevi in the Gori municipality, close to the occupied South Ossetia. The information was released by Georgia’s State Security Service (SSS) on Tuesday.

The statement reads that upon receiving information about the incident, the SSS immediately activated the European Union Monitoring Mission’s (EUMM) “hotline” to address the situation.

The incident was also reported to the co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions and other international partners.

The SSS stated that all available mechanisms have been activated to ensure the swift release of the detained citizens.

“The responsibility for all destructive actions carried out in the occupied territories of Georgia, including along the occupation line, rests with the occupying forces,” the SSS statement reads.
