Lelo opposition party MP Salome Samadashvili says that the ruling Georgian Dream party must rejoin the EU-mediated agreement which was signed by the Georgian Dream and the majority of opposition parties back in April 2021,for Georgia to have chances for EU membership.

The agreement mediated by the European Council President Charles Michel ended a six-month political standoff in Georgia.

It obliged the signatories to encourage large scale electoral and judiciary reforms.

However, the ruling party withdrew from the agreement in July 2011, citing the refusal of the largest opposition party, the United National Movement, to join the deal as the reason.

The ruling party said yesterday that the country will officially apply for EU membership today, following the same move by Ukraine.
