Eight opposition parties have signed an agreement in the western city of Poti earlier today to form the coalition government if the opposition mayoral candidate in the city, Gigi Ugulava, wins the run-off on Saturday.
Ugulava came second in the first round of elections on October 2. However, neither him, nor the ruling Georgian Dream candidate garnered mandatory 50%+1 votes and the second round will take place.
Ugulava said earlier today that the agreement is open for former PM, Giorgi Gakharia’s For Georgia party.
The United National Movement, European Georgia, Lelo, Strategy Agmashenebeli, Girchi-More Freedom, Droa, Democratic Movement and Free Georgia have signed the agreement.
The ruling party says that the opposition’s vows on the coalition government ‘is another attempt’ to mislead the public, ‘as they will not have a majority in city assemblies.’
