Zurab Azarashvili, the Georgian Health Minister, on Monday responded to the public’s concerns over the alleged flu epidemic in Georgia and claimed “ordinary seasonal viruses are currently in circulation” in the country.

In his comments following the Cabinet weekly session, the Minister said at the onset of autumn, his office took measures to import the necessary flu vaccines into the country, comprising various components and promoted vaccination through different campaigns to encourage the population to receive the appropriate vaccinations.

“Presently, the country is experiencing the typical circulation of common seasonal viruses. This phenomenon is not exclusive to Georgia; it is occurring worldwide. Typically, these viruses reach a peak by the end of January during the seasonal cycle. However, there is no need for alarm. While the virus may manifest in children, there is nothing extraordinary that warrants panic. As for vaccinations, we still have an ample supply in stock, and anyone interested can avail themselves of the appropriate vaccination,” he said.

Azarashvili also emphasized there was no shortage of space in clinics.”Clinics are not overcrowded, and there are no imminent dangers or threats in this regard. Overflow is not a possibility. This situation mirrors that of January 2023, 2022, and so forth. Seasonal flus are currently circulating in the country, and there is nothing extraordinary occurring,” he added.
