The Georgian Parliament has approved amendments to the country’s Law on Combating Corruption, allowing public officials to carry out expert activities in addition to their official duties under specific conditions.
Under the legislative changes, public servants will be permitted to engage in expert work on a secondary basis, provided they receive written approval from the head of the relevant institution or another authorised person or body defined by Georgian legislation.
Per the amendments, such permission will be granted on a one-time basis for the duration of the specific activity, for a period not exceeding one year.
The changes specifically apply to experts serving on authorisation and accreditation councils for educational institutions, as well as members of authorisation, accreditation and appeals councils across all levels of education.
Parliament approved the amendments with 90 votes in favour.
