The Georgian Parliament on Wednesday approved Mamuka Mdinaradze as the head of the State Security Service.
Mdinaradze's candidacy was supported by 85 MPs, none were against, as majority of opposition groups had requested the suspension of their mandates following the 2024 elections due to alleged vote rigging.
After the vote, the Chairman of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, congratulated Mdinaradze on his election and wished him success in the position.
“I would like to thank him for the work he has done in the three convocations of the Georgian Parliament. Both his friends and, most importantly, his enemies know very well what role Mdinaradze had in the Georgian Parliament. Precisely for the benefit of those who love our country and to the detriment of our country's enemies,
"I am sure that Mdinaradze will be an outstanding head of the State Security Service and will further strengthen the security system that Georgia has established over the years and which allows us to maintain peace and the rates of growth of prosperity that we have in the regional uncertainties and turbulences that Georgia is going through. We wish Mdinaradze the same success that he was as a successful member of parliament and majority leader," Papuashvili noted.
