The Georgian Parliament approved in its first reading amendments to the Election Code, with 80 votes in favor and 9 against.

The draft law was presented by the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Procedural Issues, David Matikashvili.

According to the proposed amendments to the organic law, the procedures for photo and video recording and audio monitoring during sessions of election commissions will be determined by a decree of the Central Election Commission of Georgia.

The changes also specify that an international observer may only be a foreign citizen aged 18 or older.

In addition, the draft law establishes procedures for the registration of interpreters accompanying international observers.

The bill was authored and initiated by Members of Parliament Archil Gorduladze, Tornike Cheishvili, Rati Ionatamishvili, Aluda Gudushauri, David Matikashvili, Guram Macharashvili, Akaki Aladashvili, Tengiz Sharmanashvili, Aleksandre Tabatadze, and Irakli Shatakishvili.
