The Georgian Parliament on Wednesday approved amendments to the Law on Higher Education and related bills in a third and final reading, advancing the Government’s planned higher education reform.
Under the reform, studies for Georgian citizens at the first and second levels of academic higher education will be fully funded by the state when pursued at government-established higher educational institutions. The Government will also determine the rules and conditions for state funding of other individuals studying at these institutions at the same academic levels.
The reform introduces a 3+1+1 academic structure across the university system - three years for a bachelor’s degree, followed by one year for a master’s degree.
Additionally, the amendments extend the deadline for developing the concept, model and standards of an online university to January 1, 2028.
