The Pentagon says that despite Russian troops no longer present near Kyiv and the city is relatively protected, Russia may still attack the Ukrainian capital.

The Pentagon Spokesperson John Kirby says that other Ukrainian cities could also be the target of a Russian missile attack.

He stated that even at that time when Russia began withdrawing its troops from the Ukrainian capital, Chernigov, and northern Ukraine, the United States did not believe that Kyiv had escaped the threat, especially from the air.

Russia invaded Ukraine on  February 24.

Hostilities have been in progress in the country since then.

Alarm systems were switched on in Kyiv earlier today, warning the people to go to shelters.
