Georgian opposition leader and General Secretary of the United National Movement (UNM), Petre Tsiskarishvili, has stated that the ruling Georgian Dream party miscalculated its expectations regarding US politics, believing a Putin-style leadership would emerge in Washington.

“Georgian Dream hoped that a leadership similar to Putin’s or Bidzina Ivanishvili’s would take over in Washington, but they were gravely mistaken,” Tsiskarishvili said.

His remarks come in response to the passage of the MEGOBARI Act in the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, a legislative measure aimed at supporting stability and democracy in Georgia and Eastern Europe.

According to Tsiskarishvili, the MEGOBARI Act is not just a statement or resolution but a legally binding norm that the US executive branch will be required to implement.

“This act is not merely a declaration or a resolution—it is a legislative norm, meaning a law of the United States that must be enforced by any executive authority,” he emphasized.
