Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has warned that any US military action against Greenland would mean the end of NATO.

“If Trump says he wants Greenland, it must be taken seriously. However, I want to state clearly that if the United States decides to carry out a military attack against another NATO member, everything would come to a halt - including NATO itself and the security framework that has existed since the end of World War II,” Frederiksen said.

Her remarks follow statements by US President Donald Trump, who has claimed that Greenland is necessary for the United States’ national security.

Denmark’s position has been backed by the majority of European countries, which have expressed support for Copenhagen amid the renewed debate over Greenland’s status and security.
