Police detain 7 on election day, investigation launched into 16 cases

The Georgian Interior Ministry says that they have detained seven individuals, mostly for disobedience to police and hooliganism on the day of municipal elections yesterday, while investigation has been launched into 16 cases which contain signs of criminal activity. 

The cases mostly concern violence and inflicting injury at polling stations in Georgian regions.  

Three of the seven individuals who faced administrative detention on the election day were involved in incidents in eastern Marneuli region. 

A man was also stabbed in Marneuli yesterday at a polling station and police are looking into the case. 

The ministry says that they have reacted to 200 incidents on the election day to ensure the holding of elections in a peaceful environment.
