Russian citizen detained at Dariali border crossing for smuggling drugs

In a joint operation, officers from the Kazbegi District Division of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Police Department and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service under Georgia's Ministry of Finance detained a Russian citizen born in 1995.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the suspect, identified as R.A., was apprehended at the Dariali border crossing point following comprehensive operational and investigative activities.

During a luggage inspection at the crossing, law enforcement officers discovered a psychotropic substance, which was seized as evidence.

R.A. has been officially charged, and the investigation is underway under Article 263, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to the illegal purchase and possession of psychotropic substances.

If found guilty, the offense is punishable by up to five years of imprisonment.
