Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has told CNN that Georgia is committed to all international sanctions which have been imposed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, adding that Georgia is not a country which is able to supply Ukraine with weapons.
Zourabichvili has dismissed reports that she supports Ukraine more than the Georgian Dream authorities “which has triggered controversies between her and the government.”
She claimed that the “difference” could only be in the wording used by the president and the government officials as Georgia has joined all international resolutions adopted in support of Ukraine and is automatically linked with sanctions “which means a lot to the Georgian financial sector.”
Zourabichvili stated that Georgians are open to expressing support for Ukraine, carrying the flags of the country and pushing forward various initiatives to help the Ukrainian people.
As for supplying Ukraine with weapons, Zourabichvili stated that it is not serious as Georgia is not a country which can do this.
“There are many other countries that are protected by Article 5 of NATO (collective defense), they can provide military assistance to Ukraine and are doing so. This is very important. These countries must do everything they can. In this regard, I agree with the President of Ukraine that such countries can provide more military assistance to Ukraine, they should do it,” – said Zourabichvili.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.
Hostilities have been in progress since then.
