Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has responded to Georgia’s receiving the EU questionnaire today for its EU membership bid, stating that “it is a historic day which would not have come so quickly without Ukraine’s current fight (against Russia).”

In a press conference today, Zourabichvili said that the whole Georgian public “must be mobilized” for the country to use the opportunity.

“Today is one of the most remarkable days in the history of Georgia. We received a questionnaire from the EU today, which we probably would not have received for several years. This is an extraordinary new opportunity for our country. For this we should thank all the member states of the European Union, the leadership of the EU, the Council of Europe and even more we should thank Ukraine and the fight for Ukraine,” Zourabichvili stated.

She said that due to Russia’s war in Ukraine, the EU decided to speed up the integration  process for Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova and “put politics above  bureaucracy.”

Zourabichvili stressed that the country’s EU integration and all procedures related to it are of the national interest and requires the engagement of all groups.
