Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has pledged “personal involvement” for Georgia’s EU membership as the country officially applied for this  in early March.

Meeting with the European Parliament delegation in Tbilisi today, Zourabichvili reiterated that Georgia will share the benefits ensured by the country’s EU integration with the people in Georgia’s Russian-occupied territories, stating that the regions would be reintegrated “only peacefully.”

“As before, I personally continue to be actively involved in bringing Georgia closer to the EU. We offer the people of our occupied territories a European perspective, not a war,” Zourabichvili said.

The meeting was focused on the ongoing war in Ukraine, the occupied territories of Georgia, the situation in the region, the Black Sea security, the Association Trio and Georgia’s EU accession process, as well as Zourabichvili’s efforts to fight with polarization.

“The President reiterated Georgia’s European choice and said that the EU membership questionnaire will be handed over to Georgia today which is an important step forward on Georgia’s path to Europe,” said the President’s press office.

The meeting at the Orbeliani Presidential  Palace was attended by Lukas Mandl, Deputy Chairman of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Security and Defense Subcommittee; the subcommittee members Juozas Olekas and Elena Yoncheva, as well as European Parliament member Lars Patrick Berg.
