Man charged in Khashuri Municipality for murder, domestic violence, and attempted murder of policemen

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged a man in connection with a series of serious crimes committed in the village of Bebnisi, Kareli Municipality, including aggravated murder, domestic violence, attempted murder of police officers, and an attack on a police vehicle.

According to the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on August 7, 2025, following an argument and motivated by revenge, the accused shot a man with a hunting rifle, killing him on the spot. The shooting also endangered the life and health of another person nearby.

Upon receiving a report of the murder, police officers arrived in Bebnisi in official vehicles. The suspect then shot and injured two police officers, aimed his hunting rifle at another officer’s head and attempted to fire, and damaged a police vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. After the killing, the suspect also physically assaulted his father.

The charges brought against the accused include: aggravated murder committed in a manner endangering the life or health of others (Article 109, paragraph “b” of the Criminal Code of Georgia), domestic violence (Article 126¹, part 1), attack on a police vehicle in connection with official duties (Article 353¹, part 1), and attempted murder of a police officer in connection with official duties (Article 19-353¹, part 3). These offenses are punishable by up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.

The Prosecutor’s Office announced it will request pre-trial detention for the accused within the timeframe set by law.
