The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia (POG) has charged six individuals in connection with group violence during recent protests on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi.

According to an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the accused actively participated in acts of group violence that resulted in injuries to several individuals. The POG stated the incidents also caused significant damage to public and private property, including infrastructure under the management of Tbilisi City Hall.

The individuals have been charged under Article 225, Part 2 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which pertains to participation in group violence. If found guilty, they face prison sentences ranging from 4 to 6 years.

The Prosecutor’s Office announced that it will submit a motion to the court within the legally defined timeframe to impose pre-trial detention on the accused.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the criminal investigation into the events is ongoing.

The charges come amidst a tense period of pro-European protests in Tbilisi, with clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement drawing widespread attention.
