Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that he agrees with the United States’ proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine but emphasized that certain conditions must be met. He expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump for his attention to the Ukraine conflict, describing efforts to stop military actions and human losses as a noble mission. However, he insisted that any agreement must lead to lasting peace and address the root causes of the crisis.

Putin claimed that Ukraine’s willingness to accept the ceasefire was a result of the US pressure. He suggested that, despite appearances, Kyiv had likely been the one urging the US to push for the ceasefire due to the difficult situation on the battlefield. The Russian President also raised concerns about the security situation in the Kursk region, calling Ukrainian military actions there acts of terrorism. According to him, Ukrainian forces in the area are isolated and have only two options—surrender or death—further reinforcing his view that Ukraine should agree to a ceasefire.

Despite supporting the general idea of a ceasefire, Putin expressed concerns that Ukraine might use the 30-day pause to strengthen its military, mobilize new units, and receive more Western weapons. He questioned how compliance would be monitored and who would be responsible for verifying any violations. Putin stated that these issues require careful discussion, including negotiations with US officials. He even suggested that a direct conversation with Trump might be necessary. However, he reaffirmed that Russia supports the peaceful resolution of the conflict and is open to further dialogue.
