The rich countries of the world will receive a billion more doses of coronavirus vaccine, while the poor countries will have to fight for the remaining stocks.
Reuters writes about this with reference to the report of the Global Movement to End Poverty and Curable Diseases ONE Campaign.
According to the organization, countries such as the US and the UK should share excess doses. Otherwise, "billions of people could be left without the necessary protection from the virus," and this is likely to continue the onset of the pandemic.
It turned out that to date, the US, EU, Britain, Australia, Canada and Japan have already received more than 3 billion doses, which is a billion more than the population requires at two doses per person.
“Wealthy countries were betting on vaccines early in the pandemic. But since these rates are already overkill, a strong correlation is needed if we are to protect billions of people around the world,” said Jenny Ottenhoff, senior director of policy at ONE Campaign.
