The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party says that 15 of 62 local observing NGOs which have been registered to monitor the October 2 municipal elections are affiliated ‘with the radical opposition.’

The GD says that 12 of the 15 organisations are connected with the United National Movement opposition party, while the remaining three with the European Georgia party.

The ruling party claims that as soon as the opposition learns they lose the elections, they will use the organisations to say that the elections were fabricated and ‘will begin staging provocations’.

The party says that the opposition’s indifference to pre-election campaigning also points at ‘their preparations for post-election provocations.’
