Head of the ruling Georgian Dream party Irakli Kobakhidze says that the decision of the Ukrainian government to recall its ambassador from Georgia ‘as Tbilisi refused to join sanctions on Russia and did not help volunteers to leave for Ukraine,’is ‘absolutely unjustified and unacceptable.”
He stated that the United National Movement opposition party could have played its role in making the decision by Kyiv.
“There have been attempts to involve Georgia in the conflict which we would not have allowed,” Kobakhidze said earlier today.
“This is a very sad decision by the Ukrainian authorities, to put it mildly, it is a result of a coordinated action. I will not say anything more here. There is an attempt to involve Georgia in the military conflict, of course, we can not and will not allow this in the interests of the people,” Kobakhidze said.
He stated that sanctions have been named as the main reason for the recall of the ambassador.
“Sanctions on Ukraine have not been imposed by Moldova, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Israel – I will continue the list of these countries, no such decision has been made by any of them. However, ambassadors have not been recalled from the countries,” Kobakhidze said.
He said that Kyiv’s decision is particularly regrettable as Georgia ‘has done its utmost to support the country on the international arena.’
“In this situation, when Ukraine is in a very difficult situation, our friendly people are in hardship, it is wrong to criticize the Ukrainian authorities, but of course, we should say that this decision is absolutely unacceptable and unjustified. We have used all international platforms, the Council of Europe, the OSCE, the UN, to express support for Ukraine,” Kobakhidze said.
