Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is exploring the possibility of a ceasefire with Russia over the Easter holiday, in coordination with US officials.

Zelenskyy reminded on 30 March, he proposed a temporary truce to Moscow for the holiday period. Kyiv hopes the United States will support the initiative.

“We are waiting for a response from Russia. Tomorrow I will speak with the American team, including on this matter. We are hopeful for results. Everyone needs results,” he said.

A Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, however, claimed Ukraine had not made a clear ceasefire proposal and demanded that Kyiv accept Russia’s ultimatums, focusing on achieving peace rather than a temporary truce.

Last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly broke the Easter truce the day after it was implemented.
