First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, has dismissed the statements of Western states that Russia receives unmanned aerial vehicles from Iran, which it uses against Ukraine, as disinformation.

After a closed session of the UN Security Council on October 19, Polyansky told reporters that the goal of Western countries is to put pressure on Russia and Iran under fictitious pretexts and to divert attention from their own involvement in the conflict in Ukraine. Poliansky said the UN Security Council had not received any evidence that Iran has handed over unmanned aerial vehicles to Russia. The Russian diplomat claimed that his country had used only domestically produced drones.

As for Ukraine’s request to the UN that the organization’s experts investigate Russia’s use of Iranian drones, according to Polyansky, if the UN Secretariat and the Secretary General made this decision, Russia would reassess its relations with them.

“This does not serve anyone’s interests, we do not want it, but there will be no other choice,” said the Russian diplomat. He explained his resistance to the investigation by the fact that the UN Secretariat does not have the appropriate mandate.

According to the intelligence data of Ukraine and Western countries, Russia is using the so-called Iranian-made weapons in the war against Ukraine. Shahed-136 kamikaze drones, which Russia renamed Gerani-2, whichRussia and Iran denying this.

In recent days, the Russian military using drones had carried out a number of attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, mainly on energy facilities.
