Russians are bombing an Azovstal plant in Mariupol now which has been a stronghold for Ukrainians for several weeks on in the besieged city, advisor to the mayor of Mariupol, Petro Andriushchenko said via Telegram.

“The occupiers are attacking not only Azovstal, but also using artillery and tanks to attack a residential sector on the left bank,” he said.

It has been reported recently that the plan is housing at least 1,000 civilians waiting for a humanitarian corridor.

The Azovstal iron and steelworks, one of Europe’s biggest metallurgical plants, has become a major hold-out for Ukrainian troops in Mariupol who are outgunned, outnumbered and besieged by occupiers since February.

Mariupol has become a major obstacle for Russians in Ukraine.

Thousands of civilians have been killed by Russians since the beginning of hostilities in Ukraine on february 24, including at least 200 children.
