The six individuals arrested during the protest near the Georgian Parliament following Mikheil Kavelashvili’s inauguration have been released after signing written pledges.

The protesters were detained around 2:30 PM on December 29 for alleged administrative violations. According to police, the detainees failed to comply with lawful orders and were blocking the roadway for vehicles.

However, human rights defenders and eyewitnesses reported instances of police violence during the arrests, including pulling protesters by their hair and physical force. Among those detained was one woman.

The incident has sparked criticism from activists and opposition leaders, who argue that the government’s response to peaceful demonstrations is increasingly heavy-handed.
