Sandra Roelofs, wife of Georgia’s currently arrested former president Mikheil Saakashvili, says that ‘Misha is a political prisoner,’ however states in her Facebook post that Saakashvili’s recent announcement on a new family with Ukrainian MP Liza Yasko ‘was very surprising’ for her, while the form of the announcement – ‘unecceptable.’
Saakashvili and Yasko recorded a video prior to the ex-president’s departure to Georgia ahead of the October 2 municipal elections in which the couple announced they have a family.
Saakashvili until now has been officially married to Roelofs.
They have two sons Eduard and Nikoloz and have not announced their divorce officially.
Saakashvili, who is convicted in Georgia, says he has returned for the municipal elections in Georgia, after eight years on political exile, to ‘save the country’ from the current Georgian Dream leadership.
He said that winning the municipal elections by the United National Movement opposition, the party which was founded by him, would be a step taken for a bigger victory – the change of authorities via early parliamentary elections.
Yasko also arrived in Georgia shortly before and encouraged Georgians to support Saakashvili ‘who is a hero.’
