Georgia's foreign office on Monday claimed the European Union ambassador to Georgia, Pawel Herczynski, was summoned for talks with Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili over remarks made in Brussels at an event concerning Georgia.
The ministry said Botchorishvili told the envoy that Brussels’ current policy towards Georgia, as well as recent actions and public statements, were undermining trust between the two sides and damaging the Georgia-EU partnership.
The ministry said Brussels’ conduct could be seen as encouraging deeper polarisation within Georgian society and promoting a radical political agenda.
It added that the Georgian government continued to express readiness for constructive dialogue and expected a fair and respectful approach from the EU.
The summons followed comments attributed to Herczynski at an event organised by the European External Action Service, where he said Georgia stood “at a crossroads” and that decisions in the coming weeks and months would determine the country’s future path.
