The Georgian Parliament on Wednesday adopted amendments to the Law on Assemblies and Manifestations in a third and final reading, along with accompanying legislative changes.
Under the amendments, organisers will be required to provide prior notification to the relevant state authority if an assembly or demonstration is held in an area used for pedestrian movement.
Additionally, if a gathering poses a real threat to public safety, order, the normal functioning of enterprises or institutions, the movement of vehicles or people, or the rights and freedoms of others, the competent state body will be authorised to instruct participants to relocate the event to an alternative location, time, or route. Failure to comply with such instructions will result in liability under Georgian law.
The amendments also clarify procedures related to the termination of an assembly or demonstration.
