The Patriarchate has called on the public to pray for the patriarch’s recovery

The Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II, has been hospitalised at Caucasus Medical Center following a sudden deterioration in his health, the Georgian Patriarchate said.

According to official information, the 91-year-old patriarch was admitted with severe gastrointestinal bleeding and is currently being treated in the intensive care unit.

Doctors said all necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures have been carried out. However, his condition remains serious, with unstable haemodynamic parameters, requiring continuous monitoring and intensive medical management.

Georgia’s Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze said that, given the patient’s age and overall condition, the situation is complex, though medical teams are taking all necessary measures to stabilise vital functions.

The Patriarchate has called on the public to pray for the patriarch’s recovery.
