Armenia’s Defence Minister Suren Papikyan is on an official visit to Georgia, where he is being hosted by his Georgian counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani.

An official welcome ceremony was held at the ministry, followed by bilateral talks between the two ministers and their delegations.

Discussions focused on cooperation in the defence sector, as well as broader regional security challenges. The sides highlighted the positive dynamics of bilateral relations and emphasised the importance of close neighbourly ties.

Chikovani thanked the Armenian side for its support of Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, reaffirming Tbilisi’s backing for Armenia on the same principles.

Regional security and ongoing challenges were among the key topics, with both ministers expressing readiness to contribute to peace and stability in the region.

The two sides also reviewed areas of cooperation outlined in the 2026 bilateral plan, which officials said is more comprehensive than in previous years.

Following the meeting, Papikyan laid a wreath at a memorial dedicated to those killed in conflicts related to Georgia’s territorial integrity.

As part of his visit, the Armenian defence minister is also expected to visit the Maro Makashvili Military Servicemen Rehabilitation Centre in Tserovani.
