Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has condemned the latest wave of arrests amid ongoing protests, calling the detentions absurd and comparing the situation to a Kafkaesque nightmare.

“New wave of arrests reaching new heights in absurdity: student girls detained for bringing chairs to the protests, while another student is arrested just for applauding! Kafka in Tbilisi!” Zourabichvili wrote on X.

Three students were detained near the parliament while trying to place small chairs by the stairs. However, law enforcement officers prevented them, leading to a confrontation.

Tatia Apriamashvili and Tako Gvilia were released shortly after their detention upon signing a written statement, while Luka Gogia remains in custody.
