Zourabichvili addresses Lithuania’s Seimas: Europe’s failure to act can lead to Georgia’s return under Russian influence

Georgia’s fifth President, Salome Zourabichvili, on Tuesday addressed Lithuania’s Seimas and urged Europe to take “decisive action” to “prevent her country from falling back under Russian influence.”

Zourabichvili stressed that Europe’s failure to intervene at this “critical juncture” could lead to “disastrous consequences not only for Georgia but for the entire continent.”

Speaking of the ongoing “repression” in Georgia under the Georgian Dream government, Zourabichvili framed the situation as part of a broader strategy by Moscow to regain control of the Black Sea region.
She emphasized that the current crisis in Georgia was not merely a national issue, but a “defining moment” for Europe’s future security and stability.

“This is not just a Georgian issue – it is a test for Europe,” Zourabichvili said. “The events taking place in Georgia are part of a much larger plan that Moscow is implementing to regain control of the Black Sea. Europe must act now. If we allow Georgia to fall back into Russian hands, it will not only be a tragedy for my country, but a strategic disaster for all of Europe,” she said.
