Georgian police seize nearly 6kg of methadone worth up to ₾3mln on black market

Law enforcement officers have seized nearly six kilograms of the narcotic drug methadone, with an estimated value of up to ₾3 million ($1.12mln) on the black market, Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on Saturday.

The body added officers from the Central Criminal Police Department’s Adjara Main Division arrested two Belarusian citizens on charges of illegally acquiring, possessing and facilitating the sale of a particularly large quantity of narcotic drugs.

During searches of the suspects’ persons, vehicle and temporary residences, police seized a particularly large amount of methadone prepared for sale as physical evidence. Investigators also confiscated materials used for packaging narcotic substances.

The crime is punishable by up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment.
